While some of the characters and events that appear in this book are based on historical events and figures, it is important to stress that this manuscript is a work of fiction and that portraits of said characters who appear in it are fictional, as are some of the events and journeys.

Many books were important to me in my research for both the Westerns and spy novel, Stalemate. For the historical material on the West, I have drawn from several sources of the Time-Life Books on The Old West. It is also accurate to state that a portion of my inspiration was drawn from Cormac McCarthy’s peerless masterpiece Blood Meridian. With Stalemate, again I would like to acknowledge both the information and ideas were drawn from several sources on the Cold War period: John Lewis Gaddis’ The Cold War; Gordon Corera’s MI6: Life And Death In The British Secret Service; and the superbly written My Silent War: The Autobiography of a Spy by Kim Philby.
